The response

Create in me a clean heart, God;
renew in me a resolute spirit.
Psalm 51 (50): 12
When I fell in the dark,
Where nobody would bring
Me nearer to You.
—Precisely then and there,
You seized upon me.
You whispered to my heart:
“I love you, endlessly.”
How hard is to receive
The most beautiful
Word—the eternal One.
Then You raised this question:
“How much do you trust me?”
That made the foundations
Of my whole being tremble.
That decides who I am.
Reason can but stutter
Arguments of no force.
Trust, confidence, and faith
Are not to be proclaimed
By words, but by actions.
Do I want an exit
Route, just in case I’ll fail?
Then, I do not really
Trust You. But how can I
Then answer your question?
There is a seed of love
In me, still very small—
And yet, it overweighs
Already all the rest.
May that be my response:
As I value nothing
More than Your love, I will
Surrender everything
To You, to live in You,
With You, for You—forever.
